Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of attending my first ever Lancome Elite Masterclass in Brown Thomas. What’s that you ask? I wondered the same thing! Lancome have a team of 4 elite make-up artists, who travel the UK and Ireland, to provide make-up masterclasses and demonstrations for customers. The events run for about 2 hours, with a demo in skincare and make-up, followed by time for customers to ask questions, get consultations and do some shopping.
The class took place in the Table restaurant in Brown Thomas Cork. We were greeted by the lovely staff from the Lancome counter and the amazing elite artist, Laura Pye. We were then treated to a nice glass of prosecco and there was a gift bag waiting for each of us at our seats. I originally went with the intention of observing the class, taking a few pictures and reporting back to you guys. It didn’t quite work out that way though!
It turns out Laura needed someone to be her model for the evening. She asked around and most of the ladies seemed a bit too shy and just wanted to sit back and enjoy the class. So of course, big mouth over here pipes up and volunteers! Not sure how that happened…
Laura started off by cleansing my face of the make-up I was already wearing. For this she used the Galatee Confort Cleansing Milk, followed by the La Tonique Eclat. It was then time to prep my skin to create the perfect base for the make-up! She used Génifique Eye Light Pearl around the eyes which has the most amazing cooling applicator that is perfect for waking up tired eyes in the morning. That was followed up with Advanced Génifique, which is a gorgeous serum I have heard nothing but amazing things about. She finished up the prep with the Rénergie Multi Lift moisturiser.
Now as you may or may not know, I suffer from rosacea. That means trying new products on my skin is always a bit of a gamble and the smallest thing can irritate it. I let Laura know about this and the whole time I was sat in the chair, I was worried I would suddenly flare up and potentially ruin her demonstration. Which makes me wonder why I ever volunteered…. But anyway! I have to say I was beyond shocked that not a single product irritated my skin. If you have rosacea you know that this is a rare occurrence. Every skincare product she applied to my face felt calming and cooling, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Now on to the most exciting part! At least for me 🙂 The make-up! Laura started off by priming the skin with Le Base Pro. The whole class was based on the idea of being complexion confident. The skin was the main focus and we were going for a glowy and radiant finish. To get started she used Le Correcteur Pro to conceal under the eyes. I love the idea of this little palette which comes complete with a powder to set after concealing. It would be great to see such a compact and complete palette from other brands as well! Perfect for popping in your handbag 🙂
For foundation she used the Teint Miracle Beig Porcelain which has a beautiful satin finish and can be built up from medium to full coverage. For eyes, she kept things extremely simple with the Ombre Hypnose Stylo. She used a total of 3 different shades starting off with Violet Eternel smudged on the upper and lower lash line. I am in LOVE with this colour and will definitely be purchasing it in the future. I couldn’t get over how brown it made my eyes look! This was followed by Sable Enchanté in the inner corners and then Or Inoubliable to highlight under the brow bone. She also used this to highlight on the tops of the cheekbones and cream products are a great choice when trying to achieve a natural and radiant look!
For my eyebrows she used the Sourcils Gel in Taupe which is another thing I will be adding to my shopping list. I am always on the hunt for the perfect brow product and this gel really impressed. For the price, you get a ridiculous amount of product and a little goes a very long way! It’s also waterproof so should stay in place all day. To finish off the eyes, Laura used the star of the show, the new Hypnose volume-á-porter. She first applied the Cils Booster XL to prime the lashes and then followed that with the mascara. Lancome mascaras never disappoint in my opinion and this one is no exception! I normally prefer to wear a waterproof mascara but for this I will definitely bend my own rules 🙂
For cheeks Laura applied Blush Subtil in Rose Paradis. When looking at it in the pan, this blush looks a bit intimidating, however with a light touch you can see it gives the most natural looking flush to the cheeks. For lips, she kept things simple and used the Contour Pro lip liner in Rose Thé, followed by the L’Absolu Nu lipstick in 202 Beige Tulle. To finish off the face, she did something I really was not expecting. Firstly, she took the new Miracle Cushion foundation in Porcelaine, which takes inspiration from Korean cushion products, and used that in my t-zone instead of a powder. If you have not tried this yet, pop in store and apply some to the back of your hand with the sponge. I was really surprised to find that the liquid is extremely cold! I have never felt a foundation quite like it.
Finally, Laura did something I had never witnessed before. She took the Absolue Precious Oil and warmed up a few drops in her palms. She then stood behind me and pressed the oil into my skin to SET my make-up. I have never in all my days heard of using an oil to set your face before but I loved the finish it gave! I feel like a setting powder would have taken away from the radiant finish of the skin so an oil was the perfect solution!
And there we have the finished look. I am in love! I was so honoured to have Laura do my make-up. As well as teaching the masterclasses she also does make-up at the BAFTAs every year so I felt pretty lucky to have her sorting out my face! If you would like to attend a future Elite masterclass you can keep an eye out here for when the next classes are taking place. I will definitely be going back again to observe a class instead of taking part next time 🙂
Also, keep in mind you can attend the class no matter how familiar you are with make-up and everything is so easy to follow. The staff are also more than happy to answer any questions you have after the demo and if you want to try any products out they will be delighted to help you! I only wish I had known about these classes sooner!
Until next time!
