Currently Listening To #1

(Obligatory 3 year old headphone selfie)

Today I thought I would do something different and post about something I love almost as much as makeup. Music was my first love and was all I used to talk about but someone beauty snuck in and took over!

I’m not at all sure how that happened, but today I’m returning to that first love and letting you guys know a bit of what I like :).

Here’s some of what I’m currently listening to!

Hozier – Take Me To Church

I am hearing this song everywhere at the moment and I have to say I love it. The video is very powerful. Heartbreaking even for some people so just be warned before you watch.

Lorde – Tennis Court

Lorde seems to have exploded onto the scene in the past month or so and it is shocking to think she is only 16! Crazy to me to think someone so young can have such confidence. Most of Lorde’s songs are awesome but I chose this one as I love her look in the video.

Coheed and Cambria – Dark Side of Me

This is a band I have loved for as long as I can remember. The frontman Claudio Sanchez also wrote a comic book series which is being made into a movie by Mark Wahlberg! Each of the bands albums tells a chapter of the story from the comics. How cool is that?!?! They don’t make it easy to choose just one song as they have so many great ones, but I settled on this one. And check out that hair! Amazing.

Blue October – Fear

Another band that more people should know about. I have never seen them live but I am finally going to next week! I was borderline obsessed with them a few years back so it is about time :). Their song “Hate Me” was a huge success in 2006 so they may sound familiar to you! They have a lot of catchy songs but also a few that may leave you in tears. Justin’s voice is amazing and he writes some fantastic lyrics. (Also, he followed me on Twitter and I nearly wet myself!)

Machine Head – A Farewell To Arms

I wasn’t really aware of Machine Head until The Blackening was released. I was actually at Hellfest in France and happened to see them live and was instantly SOLD. They were amazing and Robb Flynn is actually a fantastic singer which you may not be able to tell sometimes from all his yelling :). This wasn’t my usual type of music but they converted me and I have seen them live many times since. Can’t wait to see them again! This song is ridiculously long just FYI 😀

Also Robb runs a bit of a blog of his own on the bands site which is pretty cool!

Queen – Show Must Go On

“Inside my heart is breaking. My make-up may be flaking but my smile still stays on.” This is a song to listen to when you need a cry.

If you have ever heard a live version you will notice it is sung by Elton John and not Freddie Mercury. He didn’t get a chance to perform it on stage before he passed away. He was also too ill for them to record an official video so instead they made a montage of past video clips. For a man who was so close to death, the power in his voice is incredible.

Genesis – Mama

Fantastic with Peter Gabriel. Fantastic with Phil Collins. Just fantastic. If you made to the end of this post, I will reward you with this EPIC song. I feel like such a loser using that word but not sure how else to describe it! If you played Grand Theft Auto IV, I am sure you are already familiar with this song. But if not, here ya go! 20 years old and still so good. (The longer version is even better if you can find it!)

So that is it for this post guys. I don’t know about you but I enjoyed it, and have about a million other songs that I would love to talk about! I will leave it here for now though.

Let me know what you think below! Have I introduced you to anything you hadn’t heard before?

Tell me what you are currently listening to in the comments so I can check it out! 🙂

Until next time!

Great post – was looking for new music lately, so will definitely take your suggestions on board! 🙂

I’m currently listening to CHVRCHES, Birdy, Emika, Zola Jesus and Regina Spektor

I love a bit of everything though! 😉

Aw thanks :). Yeah, I’m the same! Love a bit of all sorts.
Regina Spektor is SO good! I’ve been liking Birdy too recently but haven’t heard of the others you mentioned.
Will have to check them out! 😀

I’m obsessed with that particular Lorde song so much so that it got stuck in my head for ages and drove me mad haha! I still love it though which is strange cos I usually don’t like anything in the charts these days! Also Machine Head <3 Yay!

    • November 21, 2013 at 7:32 pm

I used to have that problem, but my memory has become awful, so songs don’t get stuck in there for as long anymore haha!! <3 Machine Head indeed! So good! \o/

I always thought I had terrible memory but the way songs stick in my head now most mean it’s still pretty good! 😛

I seen Machine Head not long ago! Was an awesome gig apart from some messers in the crowd! 😛

Always a few messers! Was that in Dublin?

I didn’t go the last tour but I saw them in the Olympia when The Blackening was out and at Hellfest before that. SO GOOD LIVE! The Olympia was so cool 🙂
